How prop firm payout thresholds work

Getting funded is one step. Getting a payout has its own rules: balances to reach, minimum days, caps, and sometimes a split that changes with the size of the withdrawal. This guide explains the terms and shows the arithmetic using each firm’s published rules.

The terms

Buffer or safety net
A balance you must build above your starting balance before the firm lets you request money. At Take Profit Trader it equals the drawdown; at Apex it is the drawdown plus $100; at MyFundedFutures it is the loss limit plus $100.
Minimum payout
The smallest request the firm will process. A smaller request isn’t counted (PropFeeCheck drops it and tells you).
Cap per payout
The most you can withdraw in one request. It can rise with payout number (Tradeify, Apex) or be flat (MyFundedFutures).
Consistency rule
Usually: your best single day can’t be more than a set share of your profit (35%, 40% or 50% depending on the firm). It can delay a payout.
Qualifying days
A minimum number of days with at least a stated profit before you can ask.
Profit split
The share of each approved payout you keep. At Earn2Trade it depends on the withdrawal size.
Payout limit
Some accounts allow only a set number of payouts (Apex 6, MyFundedFutures 5 sim payouts) before closing or moving to another stage.

Limited-time offers and account-age exceptions exist (for example, Topstep describes a limited-time offer that raises caps if a Daily Loss Limit was added at purchase, and a 100% share of the first $10,000 for some traders who joined before 2026-01-12). The calculator does not model those; read the firm’s page.

Worked examples (arithmetic, not predictions)

Tradeify Growth 50K: the first request

The balance must reach $53,000, which is $3,000 above the $50,000 start. The first request must be at least $500 and at most $1,500. At the 90% split, a first request at the cap would pay you $1,350. If your total fees were $335 (one purchase and two resets), that would be 1 payout at the first cap to equal the fees. At 100K the same rule needs $4,500 of profit and the first cap is $2,000. This describes the rule, not a likelihood of reaching it.

Earn2Trade 50K: a step in the split

For evaluations bought on or after July 6, 2026, a withdrawal under $2,250 splits 50/50 and one of $2,250 or more splits 80/20 on the whole amount. A $2,000 withdrawal pays you $1,000; a $2,250 withdrawal pays you $1,800. So a $250 larger withdrawal changes your share by $800. That jump is why the calculator handles the threshold explicitly. Whether it applies to your account depends on your purchase date.

Apex EOD 50K: caps and the payout limit

Apex EOD 50K caps the first six payouts at $1,500, $1,500, $2,000, $2,500, $2,500, $3,000 and allows at most 6. Apex states it pays 100% of an approved payout Official. The balance needed before a first request is $52,600, which already includes the $500 minimum payout.

Why thresholds matter for cost

Thresholds sit between your fees and any money you could take out. A large buffer or a high minimum raises the profit a funded account needs before the first request, and a cap limits how fast fees could be matched by payouts. PropFeeCheck shows, for each plan you pick, the balance and profit implied before a first request, the caps, and how many capped payouts would equal your fees. It is size arithmetic, and it says nothing about the odds of getting there.

Published figures from the firms show how few funded traders have been paid: Topstep says 33.3% of individual participants at its Funded Level received a payout in 2025; Tradeify says 28.5% from August 2025 to July 2026; MyFundedFutures says 39.2% of participants who reached its sim-funded stage earned at least one payout (period not stated) Official. Those count people at different stages and are not predictions.
